Houston Mourns the Passing of Bluesman Ozell Roberts 4/10/09 - April 13, 2009

Dearest friends and fellow musicians. We are mourning the passing of a great American Bluesman this past weekend. Ozell Roberts passed after a long illness in Houston Tx 4/10/09. Ozell was a great guitarist and singer and frequently played at Shakespears on Memorial in west Houston as well as other venues. His technique and approach to the guitar was completely unique. He used his thumb as a pick and it had a sensational sound. The way that he expressed himself was one of unique artistry that really needed to be recorded. When Ozell played and sang, people stopped and listened as his roots took him all the way back to another great bluesman from our Hometown Houston that made it big. This man was noneother than Albert Collins who had made records for years and performed on the chitlin' circuit until he moved to California and made it big. Collins played the telecaster and was responsible for such hits as Frosty, The Freeze and others and since Ozell and Collins had such a close relationship, you could actually hear the simularity in their playing.

There will be a Memorial Benefit in Houston to raise funds for his family and his burial. Please contact Laurie Solis at 713-614-9999 for any information concerning Ozell and the Memorial Benefit.

We Miss You Ozell- Dearly

Gypsy Picks Available - July 26, 2008

On a recent trip to Amsterdam, I met a true innovater who is manufacturing custom Gypsy Picks fabricated out of bakelite, the same material that billiard balls are made of.

These picks are beveled on both sides and come in varying shapes and reduce pick resistance against the strings thereby making it easier to pick and as well adds pick speed to any guitarist's abilities.

These are better that the Wegen picks as they never wear out due to the material that they are fabricated with.

They can be obtained through me by calling 281-704-3456 in limited numbers.
